Oakland Fire Department

Welcome to the official web page of the Oakland Fire Department. We appreciate your interest in the Town of Oakland, Tennessee, and in the Town’s Fire Services Division. The Oakland Fire Department was founded in 1977, when the Town’s population was approximately 400 residents and Highway 64 was a two-lane road. At that time, residents recognized the need for an organized emergency response system for the Town, and the Oakland Fire/Rescue Department was born as a fully volunteer organization. During this same period, there was no organized fire department in Fayette County, so towns and cities provided fire services to county neighbors, while the Sheriff’s Department provided rescue services.

The Town of Oakland has experienced significant growth since 1977, and so has the Oakland Fire Department. The Town’s population has grown to approximately 12,000 residents, and the demand for fire services has increased from fewer than 50 calls per year in 1977 to more than 1,600 calls for service annually.

Today, the Oakland Fire Department is a full-service department with a professional career staff of 21 Firefighter/Advanced EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics, along with dedicated inspection and public education programs. The Department currently operates out of one central fire station and will soon be expanding its footprint to the west end of Town. The Department responds with three engines, one rescue squad, and two medical squads providing Advanced Life Support. Additionally, the Oakland Fire Department operates one brush truck, one rescue UTV, one special operations/hazmat support trailer, and two incident command vehicles. With this fleet, our firefighters provide rescue operations, advanced life support, hazardous materials mitigation, and inspection and education programs to the community. We also respond with automatic aid from volunteer fire stations throughout Fayette County.

Oakland Fire is proud to hold an ISO rating of 4.

We are located at 170 Doss Circle, Oakland, TN 38060.

If you need information about fire prevention or smoke detectors, please call (901) 465-2448. Feel free to stop by and visit—we would be delighted to give you a tour!
