Job Posting - Director of Parks & Recreation

The Town of Oakland is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Parks and Recreation.  We are looking for a proven, dynamic individual that will provide professional leadership that will positively affect both the department and community.  The director should be a self-starter, progressive energetic and a visionary in displaying parks and recreation services to Oakland.  

Successful candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of public recreation and land park operations.  Should have extensive experience with modern recreational organization policies, objectives, services and equipment.  The ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with municipal officials and the public and to promote community interest and enthusiasm in recreational activities is paramount in this position.  

Under Mayoral administrative direction: plan, manage, oversee and direct the operations and services of the Oakland Parks and Recreation Department which includes: budget for the department, planning activities, construction and maintenance of parks, landscaping for parks, advertising for park events (sports, senior activities, town celebrations, and other), attend monthly meetings of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen providing updates on activities.  

Minimum Qualifications:  
1. Must have a current driver’s license and pass motor vehicle registration check.
2. Selection for position will require passing a background check and drug screening.
3. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Other Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in recreation Administration or closely related field with 3 years or more experience in park and recreation management; or some college with five or more years of relevant experience in municipal parks and recreation.
2. Good oral and written communication skills, knowledge of basic office application MicroSoft software and some marketing experience.
