The Town of Oakland invites qualified applicants for the position of Parks and Recreation Director.  We are looking for a proven, dynamic individual that will provide professional leadership that will positively affect both the Department and the community. The selected Director shall be a self-starter, progressive, energetic and a visionary in parks and recreation services.

Successful candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of public recreation and park operations. Candidates should have extensive experience with modern recreational organization policies, objectives, services, and equipment. The ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with Town officials and the public, and to promote community interest and enthusiasm in parks and recreation activities is essential in this position.

Under the direction of the Town Manager, and with limited supervision, responsibilities include planning, managing, directing the operations and services of the Department which includes the budget for both the Annual Operating and Capital Improvement  Budgets for the Department, planning activities, park and recreation events (sports, senior activities, Town events, and other ), construction and maintenance of Parks, landscaping of Parks, and attending monthly meetings of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, and the Mayor & Board of Aldermen. Monthly reports are required as part of this attendance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation & Park Administration, Sports Management, or closely related field required.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in Parks & Recreation, with local government experience desired
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic office applications and software.
  • Program marketing experience desired.

A valid, current Driver‘s License is required and pass a motor vehicle registration check.

Salary

Salary Range: $48,000 – $60,000 per year with a competitive benefits package.
